Fluctuation was written as a result of my desire to create new works for keyboard percussion and my enjoyment of performing with my wife, a flutist. We had previously performed several works for flute and keyboard percussion, so with that basis I set out to create something that would optimize that combination and be unique to our strengths and interests. What started out as a three movement work including flute, alto flute, piccolo, marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone, gradually mutated into one continuous work blending marimba and flute, marimba and vibraphone (one player), and vibraphone and alto flute. click on the cover page to view an excerpt of the piece
