Josh
Gottry (b. 1974) earned a BM in Percussion Performance at
Northern Arizona University and a MM in Composition at Arizona
State University. He has successfully established himself
as a percussion instructor and performer throughout Arizona and
as a nationally recognized composer.
Mr. Gottry currently
serves as Adjunct Professor of Music at Chandler-Gilbert
Community College, teaching courses in Music Theory,
Composition, and Percussion. Additionally, he works with
percussion ensembles and private percussion students at all
grade levels as a clinician and within his private lesson
studio. His private students consistently earn the
highest ratings at the Arizona State Solo & Ensemble Festival,
place in All-Region and All-State Ensembles, and several have
earned percussion scholarships to such programs as Arizona
State University, Northern Arizona University, University of
Arizona, and Berklee College of Music. Mr. Gottry has
performed as Principal Percussionist with the Mesa Symphony and
Flagstaff Symphony orchestras, is currently the first-call
alternate for the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater, and remains
active as a soloist and chamber musician in various local
ensembles. As a composer, he has over
forty published
titles and has been selected for numerous ASCAP Plus Awards.
His works are internationally performed and have been
consistently recognized for their creativity, accessibility,
and overall quality.
Josh Gottry is a member
of the Percussive Arts Society, the American Society of
Composers, Authors, and Publishers, and the Society of
Composers, Inc. He is a clinician for Mike Balter
Mallets, Pro-Mark Drumsticks, and Yamaha Percussion. Mr.
Gottry currently serves as President of the Arizona State
Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and is a member of the
PAS Education and Composition committees. He has been
published in several issues of Percussive Notes and presented
clinics at the Arizona Music Educators Association Conference
and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.
